Let me tell you how we got to Scarves By Rashid.

I used to sweep the floors as a little boy at our mother’s place of employment. In the early sixties, she worked at the Samson Quilting Company in Center City, Philadelphia. They made custom quilts, shower curtains, and monogrammed expensive fur coats. I even got the chance to pin the layers of fabric together on this giant cutting table. Our mother began to do piecework from our home as time went on. I grew up listening to the sound of an industrial sewing machine.
In the summer of 1979, my cousin and I were traveling together, and he told me that he had made the pants he was wearing. Suddenly, I began to see my mom busily sewing at her sewing machine. Within weeks, I enrolled in West Philadelphia’s Adult Evening School for Tailoring. Once I completed that coursework. I registered in evening school at the former Philadelphia College of Textiles & Science to gain more skills and professional knowledge.
Let me tell you how we got to Scarves By Rashid.
My wife (Stephanie) and I were visiting my brother-in-law in (Harlem) New York City; it began to turn chilly as the sun went down. We stood directly across from the famous Apollo Theater on 125th Street (Harlem). Unknown to me, Stephanie stepped up to the curb and purchased two African motifs, double-sided scarves, to help keep us warm. They were very fashionable and unique, with an African cotton motif on one side and a warm thick acrylic fabric, on the reverse side. I asked her,” How much did you pay for these two scarves?” There is an old saying, “G-d works in mysterious ways,” Well, for the first time, on a cold evening in Harlem, my niche was no longer a mystery, and Uni World Designs was born, and over time it evolved into Scarves By Rashid. It’s been a long time coming.
